Fresh from India’s maiden World Cup victory, Deepti Sharma offered prayers at the sacred Mahakaleshwar Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The 27-year-old cricketer and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the Uttar Pradesh Police took part in the ‘aarti’ and was felicitated during her visit by the officials of the temple.
Clad in traditional attire, Deepti expressed her gratitude for the blessings that helped her and the Indian team script history on home soil. Her visit symbolizes both personal faith and national pride, following a tournament where she showcased brilliance with both bat and ball.
A Tournament to Remember for Deepti Sharma
Deepti Sharma’s performance in the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup has already gone down as one of the greatest all-round campaigns in cricket history.
She became the first player across both men’s and women’s World Cups to achieve the rare double of 200 runs and 20 wickets in a single edition of the tournament.
Deepti collected 215 runs across nine matches at 30.71, a strike rate of over 90, including three fifties. With the ball, she was simply unstoppable-22 wickets at an average of just over 20.
Deepti’s all-round brilliance won her the Player of the Tournament award as she cemented her legacy as one of India’s finest match-winners.
Deepti Sharma Performance in the World Cup Final
Deepti saved her best for the grandest stage in the final at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium. Her composed 58-run knock steadied the innings, first in the company of skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and then Richa Ghosh, after India found themselves under early pressure.
Deepti’s disciplined bowling turned the tide later when it seemed South Africa could make a comeback. She accounted for both set batters, Laura Wolvaardt and Annerie Dercksen, before completing a five-wicket haul with the title-clinching dismissal of Nadine de Klerk.
Deepti Sharma On Winning World Cup
Deepti commented after the final: “Feeling really nice that I could contribute this way in a World Cup final. We have always tried to learn from every match, and this win belongs to the entire team and our supporters. As a group, we are feeling very happy.”
From the heartbreak of the 2017 World Cup final to becoming a world champion and a national icon, Deepti Sharma’s journey has been one of resilience, faith, and hard work. Her temple visit serves as a moment of reflection and gratitude, reminding one of how belief in oneself and the divine leads history to be made.
