IPL 2026: Two of the most iconic stars in the Indian Premier League, Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja, are at the centre of some high-stakes trade conversations between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. They’re valued equally at ₹18 crore each, which makes this swap one of the most talked-about negotiations ahead of IPL 2026.
IPL 2026: Which Player Did RR wants to add in the Samson-Jadeja Trade deal?
While initial discussions indicated that it is going to be a direct two-player exchange, now it has emerged that Rajasthan are not happy with only the two-player swap. They want promising young talent, South African batter Dewald Brevis, as part of the deal along with Jadeja, to which CSK are reluctant.
IPL 2026: Why Is RR Pushing For More?
Rajasthan Royals seem intent on bolstering their squad with both an experienced Indian player in Samson and the high-potential foreign talent in Brevis. Brevis joined CSK mid-season in 2025 as an injury replacement and has since commanded significant attention in all global leagues.
The fact that the Royals asked for Brevis in addition to Jadeja suggests that they view this as an opportunity to get two major pieces in one deal rather than a simple one-for-one swap.
CSK, however, are adamant that Jadeja is adequate compensation in return for Samson and are unwilling to include any other player as part of the deal.
They had reportedly spoken to Jadeja before starting negotiations, making it clear that they were taking this as a big step whatever the result.
IPL 2026: What’s at Stake for CSK and RR?
For CSK, trading Jadeja would mean the end of a long-standing association. The 36-year-old all-rounder has been at the heart of the franchise’s success for years now and has been the go-to man for bat, ball, and everything in between. A swap with Samson would imply a strategic change in core movement.
For Rajasthan, signing Samson would see a veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batter with leadership experience come in, and the addition of Brevis will add youth and overseas depth. That leaves the question if they want to let go of an experienced all-rounder like Jadeja.
What’s the Current Status of the Talks?
While negotiations are reportedly at an advanced stage, a full agreement has not been confirmed. The ball seemingly lies with Rajasthan now, with CSK resolute on their decision of not adding an extra player into the trade. With retention and auction deadlines looming large, both sides need to take quick calls if the deal is to be finalized.
