An incident which shocked the football community when 21 year-old Billy Vigar, a frontline striker for Chichester City and ex-Arsenal youth player tragically lost his life following a head injury sustained in a match. During a league match against Wingate & Finchley in the Isthmian Premier Division, the accident occurred when Vigar collided with a hard surface just next to the pitch after playing for only 15 minutes. 

The emergency medical staff responded quickly to start stabilizing the younger injured player by airlifting him to the hospital after undergoing surgery and being placed in a medically induced coma, his brain injury and Billy passed away the morning of Thursday, September 25. 

Who is Billy Vigar?

Billy Vigar was a football from Worthing, West Sussex, bedecked with ambition and vigor for the cause. An English lad, Billy started from an early age in the sport and by then prospects had rapidly attracted attention from scouts.

He was a forward blessed with acute instincts and a relentless work ethic, two attributes that must have earned him much respect from his teammates and fans.

Career Highlights of Billy Vigar

Billy Vigar had been with the Arsenal youth academy since 14 and tracing the ranks of a player in development, he finally signed a professional contract with the club in July 2022 a milestone both proud for him and his family. He had stints on loan to Eastbourne and Derby County U21 and gathering opportunities to gain experience and boost his development.

He never managed to break into the senior squad of the Arsenal during his tenure there, it gave him the grit to play for Hastings United and then later onto Chichester City with the sole passion of pursuing football.

Notable Matches & Moments in Billy Vigar’s Football Journey

Billy showing promise with many games through all the youth and semi-pro ranks these included vital games for Arsenal U21 some of which were pertinent to his loan spells. His step down to non-league football, where he was already an important member of Hastings United and Chichester City was marked by goal-scoring ability and commitment.

His fatal head injury occurred during a Chichester City match with Wingate and Finchley and cut short sadly his promising career and life.
