Manchester United have agreed a £73.3 million deal with RB Leipzig to sign Benjamin Sesko. The 22-year-old striker chose Old Trafford over Newcastle and will sign a five-year contract. The move will take United’s summer spending to a possible £214 million, following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Diego León, and Bryan Mbeumo.

Sesko scored 13 Bundesliga goals last season and will form part of manager Ruben Amorim’s front three. His signing raises fresh questions over Rasmus Højlund’s future, while United remain open to selling or loaning several first-team players.

United Beat Newcastle in Transfer Battle

Newcastle offered a similar package to RB Leipzig for Sesko. However, the striker preferred Manchester United’s project. He will travel to Manchester shortly for a medical before the deal is finalised. United will pay £66.3 million upfront, with the rest in performance-based add-ons.

Sesko to Lead Amorim’s New Front Three

Sesko becomes the fourth summer signing under Ruben Amorim. He will join Cunha and Mbeumo in a restructured attack. United aim to improve on last season’s disappointing return of 44 goals in 38 league games. Amorim has prioritised attacking efficiency, and Sesko is expected to play a central role.

From Red Bull System to Premier League Spotlight

Sesko’s move marks his first professional venture outside the Red Bull group. He began at RB Salzburg after leaving Slovenian club Domzale. Salzburg loaned him to Liefering, where he scored 22 goals in 44 appearances. He then returned to Salzburg before moving to Leipzig. Across his Red Bull journey, Sesko won three Austrian titles and became a regular in the Champions League, scoring six times in 28 appearances.

Style, Strength, and Untapped Potential

At 6ft 5in, Sesko brings aerial strength and surprising pace. He has earned 41 international caps and impressed with his finishing. Though still developing, his skillset matches Amorim’s style. The manager will look to mould Sesko after the inconsistent spells of Højlund and Zirkzee.

Højlund Under Pressure, Exit Talks Begin

Sesko’s arrival casts doubt on Højlund’s future. United are open to loaning or selling him. However, they want his wages covered in case of a loan and a fee involved. The club also remain keen to offload Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, and Tyrell Malacia to ease the wage bill and balance spending.

Big Spending, But More Moves Depend on Sales

While Amorim wants a central midfielder, further signings will require exits. United’s summer spend has already hit £214 million. Financial flexibility now depends on trimming the squad.
