The protest coincided with the penultimate stage of the torch relay for the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics, which passed through towns on the outskirts of Milan before entering the city centre. Demonstrators gathered at several points along the route, including near the headquarters of Italian energy company Eni, a sponsor of the Games. Organisers of the protest said they were demonstrating against Israel’s participation in the Olympics over its actions in Gaza.
