Australia vs India, 3rd ODI: Indian cricket icons Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli again dominated not only with their bats, but with words as well. Following their masterful stand that led India to a nine-wicket victory over Australia in the 3rd ODI in Sydney, both veterans were interviewed by Adam Gilchrist regarding their intentions for the 2027 ODI World Cup. But they left everyone in suspense.
After India won in Sydney, India's former wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist had a lighthearted post-match conversation with the duo. The question that everyone was left thinking about was straightforward Would they be playing at the 2027 ODI World Cup?
But rather than letting the cat out of the bag, both Rohit and Virat played it cool. They grinned, thanked the people of Sydney, and dodged the question leaving their future in ODI cricket an enigma.
Rohit Sharma, chosen Player of the Series for his consistency brilliance in the three-match series, reacted diplomatically.
"I enjoy playing in Australia, particularly in Sydney. It's a fantastic ground, fantastic crowd, fantastic pitch too. You always want to test yourself here," said Rohit. "I enjoy what I do, and I hope I keep doing that," he said politely sidestepping any suggestions of retirement or 2027 targets.
Rohit's remark was a man who is still in love with the sport, but wary of the rumors over his ODI career.
Kohli also declined to make any decisive comment regarding the future World Cup but thanked the fans graciously. "We've enjoyed visiting this nation. We've played some quality cricket. Many thanks guys for turning up in such a large quantity and following us," he stated, touching hearts with his humility and charm.
