Indian batter Abhishek Sharma stole the limelight during an optional practice session in preparation for India’s Asia Cup 2025 opener against the United Arab Emirates (UAE). As per PTI news, Sharma smashed a mind-boggling 25-30 sixes during the nets, leaving one and all in awe. Sharma, who is just 23 years of age, used lightning-fast hand-eye coordination and crisp timing to send the ball over the boundary time and again, showing that he is in top nick as the tournament approaches.
Sharma, who is set to open the innings for India, displayed an aggressive mindset that aligns with the team’s overall strategy under skipper Suryakumar Yadav. His performance also raises confidence for fans, particularly with questions still looming over the second opening slot.
India’s Aggressive Approach Under Suryakumar Yadav in T20I’s
India skipper Suryakumar Yadav highlighted the need to have aggression within the team. “Temper? Sir, aggression is always present on the field when we go out to field. One cannot play this game without aggression. And I am sure, I am very keen to go out and field on the front foot,” Yadav stated before the tournament.
The Indian strategy is the antithesis to classic defensive T20 strategy, emphasizing high-risk, high-reward batting. Abhishek Sharma is the poster child for this strategy, his boundary-clearing consistency in practice sessions suggesting them ready for match situations.
Asia Cup 2025: Pakistan Too Prioritizes Aggression
Pakistan captain Salman Agha also shared similar views regarding aggression. “Well, you don’t need to tell anything to any player. Every player is very different individually. If anybody wants to be aggressive on the field, they are very welcome to do so. As far as the fast bowlers are concerned, they are always aggressive,” he told in a press conference.
Both teams entering the Asia Cup are prioritizing bold, attacking cricket, promising exciting matches ahead.
SKY on Handling the Favorites Tag and Player Updates
When questioned regarding India being termed as tournament favorites, Yadav remained light-hearted. “Who said that? (favourites) I have not heard it. You have played in this format and you know how your preparations are. If your preparations are good, then you will be very confident when you take the field. We are playing Twenty20 as a team after a long time,” he added.
Yadav also spoke about Sanju Samson’s possible exclusion from the selection, making sure the management is making cautious decisions. “I will send you the entire team, sir. We are giving him proper care. Do not worry, we will make the correct decision tomorrow,” Yadav further added.
