CHANDIGARH: As the Covid-19 crisis continues to take a toll on doctors and nursing staff, the government of Haryana has issued an order stating that medical students pursuing their PG and final semester of MBBS shall serve in hospitals across the state. Nearly 1,400 students can be deployed on the frontlines along with healthcare workers. Given the shortage of medical staff emerging as a huge problem in the battle against the pandemic, the deployment of students might prove to be a respite.
Rajiv Arora, Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department, Haryana, informed mediapersons about the state’s order asking PG and MBBS final year students to play a role in the treatment of Covid patients. It would help in dealing with the shortage of medical staff, as many doctors and nurses deployed at many hospitals are infected with the coronavirus.
It is pertinent to mention that this step will also be fruitful for patients in rural areas as the increasing death toll in the Haryana hinterland is a huge problem for the health department and the state government.
