India recorded 86,821 new coronavirus cases and 1,181 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking its Covid-19 tally past the 63-lakh mark. The country now has 63,12,585 cases of coronavirus, including 9,40,705 active cases, 52.7 lakh recoveries and 98,678 deaths. The overall recovery rate in the country is 83.5 per cent. A total of 14 lakh tests were done in the last 24 hours and 7.6 crore tests have been done in India till now. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have reported the highest number of cases. However, infections are rising rapidly in states like Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
Congress Rajya Sabha MP Ahmed Patel tested positive for the coronavirus infection. He said, “I have tested positive for Covid19, I request all those who came in close contact with me recently to self-isolate.”
India’s worst affected state Maharashtra coronavirus cases continued to surge with the state reporting 16,476 new Covid-19 cases, 394 deaths and 16,104 discharges in last 24 hours. The total cases in the state rise to 14,00,922, including 37,056 deaths and 11,04,426 discharges. Active cases stand at 2,59,006.
Looking at the individual tallies of rest of the states and UT’s of the country, starting with the national capital 3,037 new Covid-19 cases, 3,167 recoveries/discharges/migrations and 40 deaths were reported in last 24 hours. The total cases in the state rise to 2,82,752 including 2,50,613 recoveries and 5,401 deaths. The active cases currently stand at 26,738.
Madhya Pradesh reported twenty deaths and 2,041 fresh Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours. The total number of positive cases in the state is now 1,30,088 including 20,473 active cases, 1,07,279 recoveries and 2,336 deaths.
Gujarat reported 1,351 new coronavirus positive in the last 24 hours, which took its overall infection count to 1,38,745. The death toll due to the virus reached 3,463 after 10 patients succumbed to the disease. A total of 1,334 patients recovered from the infection and were given discharge in the last 24 hours, taking the recovery count to 1,18,565.
Punjab reported 1,317 new Covid-19 cases and 45 deaths in last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 1,15,151 including 15,763 active cases and 3,451 deaths.
The Covid-19 cases and deaths in Haryana have nearly doubled in September with Gurugram and Faridabad being the worst affected. The number of coronavirus infections in the state rose to 1,28,599 on 30 September from 64,732 on 31 August, while the death toll from the disease increased to 1,382 from 689 in the same period. Jammu and Kashmir reported 1,093 new Covid-19 cases (692 from Jammu and 401 from Kashmir), 1,680 recoveries and 13 deaths in last 24 hours. The total positive cases stand at 76,163 including 16,413 active cases, 58,552 recovered cases and 1,198 deaths.
India’s southern state Tamil Nadu reported 5,688 new Covid-19 cases, 5,516 recoveries and 66 deaths in last twenty-four hours, taking total positive cases to 6,03,290, including 5,47,335 recoveries, 9,586 deaths and 46,369 active cases. Kerala reported 8,135 new Covid-19 cases, 2,828 recoveries and 29 deaths in last 24 hours, taking the total number of active cases to 72,339.
Andhra Pradesh reported 6,751 new Covid-19 cases, 7,297 recoveries and 41 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking total positive cases to 7,00,235, including 6,36,508 recoveries, 57,858 active cases and 5,869 deaths.
