YouTube has started a new Premium Lite plan in India. It gives users an ad-free experience at just ₹89 per month. The plan is meant for people who only want to watch videos without ads.

This plan is cheaper than YouTube’s regular Premium service, which comes with more features but costs more.

What Premium Lite Gives

Premium Lite blocks ads on most videos, such as those in gaming, fashion, beauty, and news. But it does not include:

  • Offline downloads
  • Background play
  • YouTube Music

Users may still see ads on YouTube Shorts, music-related videos, and in search results.

The plan works on mobiles, laptops, and smart TVs, so viewers can enjoy ad-free content on different screens.

Premium Lite vs Premium

In India, YouTube Premium has different price options:

  • ₹149 per month for one person
  • ₹219 per month for Duo (two users)
  • ₹299 per month for Family (five members)
  • ₹1,490 per year for an annual subscription
  • ₹89 per month for students

The new Lite plan is the same price as the student plan, but only gives ad-free videos. It does not offer other features.

When it first launched in the US in March 2025, Premium Lite cost $7.99 (about ₹709). In India, the much lower price makes it a good choice for cost-conscious users.

YouTube’s AI Experiments

Along with Lite, YouTube also shared details about YouTube Labs, a programme for new AI tools. One of the first tests is AI Hosts in YouTube Music, where virtual hosts appear while users listen to songs.

“YouTube Labs is a new initiative dedicated to exploring the potential of AI on YouTube,” said Aparna Pappu, Vice President of YouTube Labs, in a blog post.

The idea works like Google Labs, where users test new features before they become available to everyone.

Why This Matters

Premium Lite shows YouTube’s push to reach budget-friendly markets like India. It gives people an option to watch ad-free videos at a very low cost.

While the plan does not include downloads or music, it offers a middle option for those who want only ad-free viewing.

With AI features now being tested, YouTube could soon bring more new tools and experiences to its users.
