WhatsApp can soon have a big shift in the operation. You can soon message individuals on WhatsApp without the knowledge of their mobile numbers. Meta is said to be in the process of introducing usernames to WhatsApp.

If the feature is introduced, then users of WhatsApp might not need a phone number to send messages. WhatsApp might soon permit users to book a username before the feature is made live. Here's all you need to know about how the WhatsApp username will function and what to look out for in the new update.

WhatsApp Usernames are on their Way—what to Anticipate

As per a WABetaInfo report, WhatsApp can soon permit users to pre-order their usernames before the update goes live. Users can choose any username they like, and this may not involve sharing a phone number. At present, pre-ordering usernames for WhatsApp is in development, and it might begin rolling out later in the near future.

If WhatsApp usernames go live, it will give the users a safer and optimized means of communication. The feature is already part of the WhatsApp test program in the Google Play Store.

The report also demonstrated how to reserve a username. According to the screenshot shared, WhatsApp users can find their profile page, and they might find the "Username" tab when the feature goes live.

Then users may create a username of their preference, but not website elements, but at least one letter may be included.

Apart from the rules of the username, a user should create a unique username, and it should not conflict with others. When the username typed is already used, users will be informed and will probably be requested to change or edit it.

In addition, for added security, WhatsApp is also said to include a username key, which will be a password or a brief code. Thus, if a new contact or user is attempting to reach out to you, they might need to spell the key properly in order to send a message. Thus, random users will not have the capability to reach out to you until and unless they are aware of the code, providing users with an additional layer of security.
