Starlink, Elon Musk's satellite internet service, faced a major outage on Sunday afternoon, affecting thousands of users without service across the United States, according to the outage tracking site DownDetector.
More than 49,000 users complained about the disruption, mainly from Arizona, Utah, New Jersey, and Nevada. As per the DownDetector, 60% of the users reported internet connectivity issues and the rest 40% reported a total blackout.

The situation improved during the late evening, but at least 20,000 users are still facing the problems, reportedly.
DownDetector's outage map showcased several areas impacted during the peak hours of outage, including Seattle, San Francisco, Phoenix, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, and St. Louis. These hotspots showed widespread connectivity failures before service gradually began to recover.

Starlink, which offers satellite internet services to more than 100 countries and regions around the globe as of mid-2025, has not made an official announcement on what caused the outage.
In spite of the disruption in service, users are still able to monitor the DownDetector map for the current status on impacted areas and restoration efforts.
