UPI payments are now everywhere — on phones, smartwatches, and even some TVs. But Lenskart is taking digital payments a step further. The company is introducing UPI-enabled smartglasses. These glasses will allow users to pay directly from their eyewear without touching their phones at all.

At the Global Fintech Festival 2025, Lenskart shared this innovation for its upcoming B Camera Smartglasses. The new model will come with direct UPI payment integration, making it the first smartglasses in India to offer such a feature.

How UPI Payments from Smartglasses Work?

The Lenskart B Camera Smartglasses will let users scan QR codes using the glasses’ built-in camera. Once the code is scanned, users can authenticate the payment using voice commands. The transaction will complete without using a phone or entering a PIN.

This feature uses NPCI’s UPI Circle technology, which was recently launched to enable digital payments through wearable devices. The technology ensures that payments are secure, real-time, and fully hands-free, making it convenient for users on the move.

Peyush Bansal’s Vision for Smartglasses

Peyush Bansal, Chairman, CEO & Co-founder of Lenskart, sees this as a big step forward for wearable technology. He said, “The role and use of smart glasses in our lives will continue to evolve, and payments are an important part of our daily activity. By integrating payments into the camera of smart glasses, we intend to make this a seamless form of payment.”

This clearly shows that Lenskart wants smart glasses to do more than just entertainment or fitness. The company wants these glasses to become a daily-use device for multiple purposes, including payments.

Beyond Payments: AI and Camera Features

The B Camera Smartglasses will not just handle payments. They will also come with an AI-powered Point-of-View (POV) camera for real-time image and video capture. The AI features will help users with smart tasks such as recognizing objects, capturing memories, or assisting while travelling or navigating new places.

By combining camera, AI, and payment capabilities, the smartglasses could become a powerful all-in-one wearable device, helping users with both daily tasks and advanced smart functions.

Why This Move Matters?

So far, big global tech companies like Meta, Google, and Apple have not been able to integrate digital payments into smartglasses.  If Lenskart succeeds, it could become the first brand worldwide to offer this feature. It also puts India at the forefront of wearable payment technology.

The move also aligns perfectly with India’s growing focus on cashless payments and AI-driven consumer technology. If successful, these glasses could change how people make quick transactions on the go — whether at cafés, stores, or even taxis.

Future of Wearable Payments

Hands-free payments through eyewear might sound like something from the future, but Lenskart is bringing this idea closer to reality.

If the B Camera Smartglasses succeed, they could set a new standard for wearable devices, combining fashion, smart technology, and fintech in one product.

These smartglasses are expected to launch in the coming months, marking a significant step in India’s digital payment ecosystem. They may change how people view and use wearable devices in everyday life.
