Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence venture, xAI, is all set to roll out Grok Imagine, a cutting-edge AI video generator that will allow users to create videos directly from text prompts. While Musk has hinted at this feature earlier, access was previously limited to select individuals including some influencers and xAI team members.

What Is Grok Imagine?

Grok Imagine allows users to generate videos with sound using text prompts, all within the platform itself. Users can also turn static images into dynamic video content. Musk previously teased the feature by saying they were ‘bringing back Vine, but in AI form’. The reference is to the now-defunct short-form video app Vine, which Twitter had shut down in 2017.

According to xAI team members, each video can run up to six minutes, matching Vine’s original time cap. An employee also revealed to Dataconomy that Grok Imagine will include a ‘spicy mode’ that allows nudity in generated videos. Mati Roy, a member of the team, shared this insight, further stoking interest.

How to Access Grok Imagine

In a recent update on X, Musk encouraged users to “Update your 𝕏 app and request to be on the waitlist for Grok Imagine.” Additionally, Grok’s official account confirmed a phased rollout for the feature.

They wrote, “Video generation is coming to Grok via our Imagine feature, powered by Aurora. Create instant videos with sound from text prompts. Download the standalone Grok app, subscribe to SuperGrok, and join the waitlist for early access in October.”

The Grok Imagine tool will be available to premium users through xAI’s SuperGrok subscription tier, which is priced at $30 per month.

What Else Is xAI Working On?

With Grok Imagine, xAI has been working on AI companions. Two fine examples are Ani and Valentine. They have drawn criticism for displaying sexually explicit and inappropriate behaviour. Despite the concerns, Musk’s company is continuing to scale up its AI ambitions.

xAI is also working on a child-friendly version, dubbed Baby Grok, and is upgrading its AI infrastructure by adding 110,000 GPUs to its supercomputer, Collosus, to boost performance and capabilities.
