Google has begun extending its Gemini AI features to Chrome on iOS, opening access to a wider group of iPhone and iPad users. The addition arrives months after the desktop release and signals Google’s push to bring lightweight AI assistance directly into everyday browsing. Although the update is rolling out gradually, its presence marks a shift in how users might interact with the web.

A Subtle but Significant Change

Once the feature reaches a device, users will notice a new icon on the left side of the Chrome address bar. This small symbol, shaped like a page marked with the Gemini star, replaces the older Google Lens shortcut.

A single tap reveals Gemini’s tools without leaving the current webpage. It is designed as a quick-reference companion rather than a full-scale conversational AI.

What the New Icon Can Do

With Gemini embedded in the browser, users can ask simple questions about the content in front of them or request a short summary of the page they are reading. It eliminates the need to jump between apps or copy text into a separate assistant.

This setup brings a smoother flow to reading, researching and checking quick facts from within Chrome itself.

How the Integration Works

The version of Gemini inside Chrome focuses on speed and convenience. It handles brief queries and on-screen interpretation but does not replace the depth available in the standalone Gemini app or website.

Google describes the feature as a tool for rapid support rather than long, detailed exchanges. Its purpose is to help users stay on the page instead of switching contexts.

What Users Need to Access It

Not everyone will see the feature immediately, as Google is rolling it out in stages. To use it, users must be signed in to Chrome, must not be in Incognito mode and must have the browser updated to the latest version.

At this stage, the feature works only in English. If the old Google Lens icon is still visible, the update simply hasn’t arrived yet.

Why This Matters for iOS Browsing

Embedding Gemini directly into Chrome brings iOS users closer to the AI-enhanced browsing experience available on desktop. It also shows Google’s intention to weave Gemini into its wider ecosystem, turning AI support into a natural part of routine web use instead of a separate destination. For iPhone and iPad users, this could be the beginning of faster and more fluid online navigation.
