Apple records $9 billion in India sales ahead of iPhone 17 launch, expanding stores and production.
Just days before the launch of the iPhone 17 series, Apple's sales i India have crossed $9 billion, and this shows how important India has become for Apple, especially as sales in countries like China are slowing down. Most of Apple's success in India still comes from the iPhone, while MacBook sales are growing.
Apple is also investing more in the country with new stores, rising demand, and bigger production. Right now, one in five iPhones is made in India, and Apple plans to build all four models of the iPhone 17 there, too. In addition to being a major production location, India is one of Apple's expanding markets.
The iPhone is Apple’s most popular product in India. Data from Counterpoint Research shows that iPhones now hold 7% of India’s smartphone market. Sales of MacBooks are also rising, which means more Indians are starting to use Apple’s wider range of products.

Apple’s revenue in India grew 13% in the 12 months starting March 2024. It went up from $8 billion last year to over $9 billion this year. Wendy Beckman, VP of Apple Retail, said, “A really good introduction to the ecosystem and everything with our products too.” She explained that many Indians are trying Apple devices for the first time.
Apple’s success in India is not only about sales. The country has become an important part of its global manufacturing. Today, one in five iPhones sold worldwide is made in India. Apple has increased production in five factories, including new ones in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
The company is also expected to produce all four iPhone 17 models in India. This proves India’s growing role in Apple’s supply chain. Apple’s revenue from India has grown 1.5 times in the last three years, making it one of the most valuable markets for the company.
Apple is also working hard to grow its stores in India. Recently, it opened two new outlets in Bengaluru and Pune. These stores give customers a chance to touch, test, and explore Apple products with expert help.

“People can play and have the ability to discover and explore our products with support from the teams,” Beckman said.
Apple launched its online store in India in 2020 after meeting local sourcing rules. In 2023, CEO Tim Cook opened the first two physical Apple stores in Mumbai and New Delhi. More stores are coming soon, including one in Noida and another in Mumbai.
Apple is focusing on India at a time when sales in other regions are slowing. In China, Apple has lost some ground to local brands like Xiaomi. Although revenue from China rose 4.4% in the June 2025 quarter after years of decline, India’s growth is much stronger.

India gives Apple two big advantages: a fast-growing market of new customers and a strong base for manufacturing. As the iPhone 17 launch approaches, Apple’s $9 billion sales record shows that India will play an even bigger role in the company’s future.
