Apple has developed a ChatGPT-style chatbot for the iPhone, but it is currently only for internal use. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the app is being tested by Apple engineers to create a more advanced Siri. Regular users won’t see it in the App Store anytime soon.
The experimental app is helping Apple test features like better memory, multitasking across apps, and deeper integration with personal data. Think of it as Siri with sharper awareness and more initiative.
According to reports, Apple engineers can test next-generation Siri features with the chatbot, Veritas. It can do things like edit photos within apps and access email and music collections. Veritas shows Apple's dedication to updating its digital assistant, despite being restricted to internal testing.
The interface looks similar to other popular chatbots. It supports multiple conversations at once, recalls past exchanges, and allows longer, natural dialogues. Apple’s in-house large language models are combined with external AI technologies through its Linwood framework.

Veritas supports multiple parallel chats, referencing past conversations, and smoother dialogues instead of short, one-off answers. In short, Apple has created its own ChatGPT-style chatbot for testing internally.
Apple initially planned “Apple Intelligence Siri” with iOS 18, but delayed the release because it didn’t meet their standards. The company stripped it back and rebuilt Siri on a new foundation.
Large language models (LLMs), the technology behind ChatGPT, Claude, and Google Gemini, are the emphasis of Apple's second-generation architecture. The new Siri will manage ongoing conversations, respond naturally, and handle complex requests in addition to answering trivia questions and setting timers.

The LLM-powered Siri is expected in early 2026, likely with an iOS 26.4 update in March. Apple is taking its time to ensure the tool is safe and reliable.
The new Siri may also get a more “humanoid” visual identity, possibly inspired by the Mac’s Finder logo. While cosmetic, it signals a major shift in how Apple wants users to interact with Siri.
According to reports, Apple has talked about working with Google, Anthropic, and OpenAI. Given Apple's reputation for in-house development, this could indicate that the 2026 Siri may employ third-party models.

This update hints that Apple wants Siri to evolve from a basic digital helper into a genuine conversational partner. Users may soon interact with Siri in a more natural, intuitive way, making it closer to AI chatbots like ChatGPT—but with the Apple touch.
For now, only Apple engineers are testing it. If successful, the upgraded Siri could finally compete with other AI chatbots while keeping privacy and integration with Apple devices intact.
