Amit Kshatriya has been appointed as the chief civil servant of NASA. This event steps into a very critical leadership role that will go on to define the future of American space exploration. Amit Kshatriya will also supervise ten NASA centers and most mission directorates as Chief Executive.

He will lead the return of the United States to the Moon, under the Artemis program and the groundwork for future crewed missions to Mars will then be laid by him. His appointment is way beyond just turning over a new leaf in that department and it marks a realignment in strategy to define a new, increasingly broad national vision for keeping America at the forefront of the rapidly changing space domain.

Amit Kshatriya: From Software Engineer to Space Strategy Architect

Amit Kshatriya starting as a robotics engineer and spacecraft operator during the assembly of the International Space Station, Kshatriya’s career spans nearly two decades with NASA that began back in 2003. His floor experience came into play for hitherto real time mission operations with complex robotic systems before moving on to an upper echelon in a leadership role.

Amit Kshatriya’s portfolio expanded from spaceflight operations and systems engineering to program management and culminated in his recently completed stint as deputy associate administrator for the Moon to Mars Program.

What was the Vision and Impact on Artemis?

Amit Kshatriya was up until recently head of integrated strategic efforts across the Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate (ESDMD) within which Artemis and Mars activities were developed and aligned.

His responsibilities included risk scope, the long-range plan and the integration of complex technical systems across vehicles, spacecraft and ground operations. His efforts were vital to the successful Artemis I mission for testing a human rated spacecraft in lunar orbit an essential step toward achieving sustainable human presence on the Moon.

Amit Kshatriya: Education & Personal Background

Amit Kshatriya a Brookfield born individual, spent his early years in Katy, Texas. His parents are Indian immigrants, and he is one of the many Indian Americans who has become prolific in world scientific leadership. He is married with three kids.

Amit Kshatriya has coped with the dual demands of equally high-pressure work and home life. His awards by NASA are numerous and they are a reflection of the consistently innovative, operationally excellent and mission successful records.
