Just weeks before the Bihar Assembly elections, the NDA has faced a major setback in Chhapra’s Marhaura constituency. The nomination of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) candidate Seema Singh was rejected by the Election Officer during document verification. Officials said her papers contained discrepancies, leading to the cancellation. Seema Singh, known for her bold presence in Bhojpuri cinema, was contesting her first election under the leadership of Chirag Paswan.
Who is Seema Singh?
Seema Singh, often called the “Dancing Queen” of Bhojpuri cinema, is one of the most popular item dancers in the industry. Her glamorous performances and energetic dance numbers have earned her a massive fan following. Fans often refer to her as the “Sunny Leone of Bhojpuri films.”
Born in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, Seema began her career in regional cinema before achieving fame through the hit song “Misir Ji Tu To Bada Thanda” from Dinesh Lal Yadav’s “Nirahua” starrer Nirahua Rickshawala. The song became a massive hit, cementing her place in the industry.
Seema Singh is married to Saurav Singh from Bihar’s Nawada district. Over her long career, she has appeared in more than 600 films across languages, including Bhojpuri, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Bengali, and Rajasthani. Some of her notable Bhojpuri films include Hum Do Anjaane (2011), Chhodab Na Sang Tohar, and Himmatwala.
From Glitz to Politics
Recently, Seema Singh stepped into politics by joining Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas). The party gave her a ticket to contest from Marhaura, a politically active seat in Saran district. Her entry was seen as a move to attract young and entertainment-loving voters. However, her nomination rejection has ended her political debut before it could begin.
According to reports, Seema Singh’s papers were rejected along with three others, BSP’s Aditya Kumar, JD(U) rebel Altaf Alam Raju (Independent), and another Independent candidate, Vishal Kumar.
Marhaura Turns Into a Two-Way Contest
With Seema Singh’s exit, the electoral fight in Marhaura is now expected to be a straight contest between RJD’s Jitendra Rai and Jan Suraaj’s Abhay Singh. Jitendra Rai, who has represented Marhaura since 2010, is considered a strong candidate with deep local roots. Political analysts believe that Seema Singh’s disqualification has benefited the RJD, as it reduces competition for the incumbent MLA.
The first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections is set for November 6, 2025, and the drama in Marhaura has already intensified. While Seema Singh’s disqualification is being seen as a procedural issue, it has politically dented the NDA’s prospects in the constituency.
