Jay Prakash Narayan Yadav is an experienced leader from Bihar with the distinction of being one of the most seasoned and influential leaders in regional politics. A man of decades-long political career, he has represented the constituencies of Munger and Banka in the Lok Sabha and has held important portfolios in both state and central governments.
Born on August 2, 1954, in Barhat, Jamui district, Bihar, Jay Prakash Yadav has been active in public life for more than four decades. He is known for his role in advocating rural development and water management policies during his tenure in government.
As of 2025, Jay Prakash Yadav is 71 years old despite his age, he is still very politically active and maintains a visible presence in his home district and at the national level.
He married Savita Yadav on 18th February, 1991 since then, the couple has kept themselves really close to public service, be it family life or their political commitments.

His declared properties include land and a residential house in Barhat village, Jamui district. The total valuation, as per his affidavit, stands close to Rs. 7.7 crore.
His office address is Dhokhahara Paliganj, Patna, Bihar 804423 and he manages all administrative and constituency-related works there.
Yadav has represented Munger from 2004-2009 and Banka from 2014-2019 in Lok Sabha. Previously, he served for several terms in the Bihar Legislative Assembly between 1980 and 2004.
He is survived by two daughters, Divya Prakash and Shefali Roy. Divya is married to Aman Yadav while Shefali Roy is a lawyer practicing at the Supreme Court of India.
In 2025, Yadav remains a senior leader, policy adviser of the Rashtriya Jansambhavna Party and actively guides the youth and local party workers.
Yadav had been accused of releasing his brother Vijay Prakash from police custody during the 2005 Bihar Assembly elections. Subsequently, he resigned from the position of Minister of State for Water Resources following the controversy. He was granted bail later and resumed his political career.
According to his affidavit filed for the 2024 election, Jay Prakash Yadav does not have any criminal cases outstanding against him. His profile is clean on the “Crime-O-Meter.”
