Amid the nomination process for the Vice President election, an unusual political move from a young student in Rajasthan has caught national attention. Jalaluddin, a 38-year-old resident of Jaisalmer, reached the Rajya Sabha on Monday and submitted his nomination papers along with a deposit of ₹15,000.

Jalaluddin is currently pursuing his studies at Haridev Joshi Journalism University in Jaipur. His interest in politics is not new.

Political Journey Started in 2009

Jalaluddin’s first step into politics was in 2009, when he contested for the Ward Panch seat from Asutar Bandha Panchayat in Jaisalmer district. He lost that election by just one vote. Despite the defeat, his enthusiasm for politics never faded.

In 2013, he filed his nomination for the Jaisalmer Assembly seat. The following year, in 2014, he filed papers for the Barmer–Jaisalmer Lok Sabha seat. However, both times he later withdrew his nomination.

Vice President Election Sparks New Bid

After the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, the election for the post is scheduled for September 9. As soon as the nomination process began, Jalaluddin decided to take part once again. He filed his nomination with the Election Commission on August 11.

Speaking about his decision, Jalaluddin said, “Mujhe chunav ladne ka shauk hai. Main jaanta hoon ki mera naamankan radd ho jayega, lekin maine phir bhi naamankan daakhil kiya hai.”

Past Attempts Beyond Mainstream Politics

Jalaluddin also shared that he once tried to contest the university student union elections. However, due to his advanced age, his nomination was turned down. Jalaluddin sees the election as a chance to take part in the democratic process, whilst many others consider them only a contest to win.

Symbol of Political Spirit

Even though he is aware that his current nomination is unlikely to be accepted, Jalaluddin remains determined to contest whenever possible. His story reflects the passion of individuals who engage in politics not just for power but for the love of participation.

With the Vice President election approaching, stories like Jalaluddin’s add a touch of human interest and highlight the diverse motivations that drive people into the political arena.
