Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Union Government, alleging discrimination against southern states and accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of indulging in political gimmicks over women’s reservation.
Speaking at The Hindu Huddle session titled “By, For, and Of the People: Good Governance for Telangana” in Bengaluru, the Chief Minister discussed governance reforms, women’s empowerment, economic development, employment generation, caste census, and Centre-State relations.
On the Women’s Reservation Bill, Revanth Reddy said the Congress opposed linking reservation to the proposed increase in Lok Sabha seats, arguing that such a move would disproportionately benefit northern states while penalising southern states that have successfully controlled population growth. He urged the Centre to avoid widening the North-South divide and implement women’s reservation sincerely.
Highlighting Telangana’s economic vision, the Chief Minister unveiled the “Telangana Rising 2047” roadmap, aimed at transforming the state into a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047. He said Telangana had been divided into three development zones—CURE, PURE and RARE—to promote balanced growth in urban, peri-urban and rural regions. He also announced plans for Bharat Future City, expansion of Metro Rail, EV promotion, lake restoration and enhanced connectivity to Machilipatnam Port.
Revanth Reddy asserted that his government had provided 67,760 government jobs in just 15 months and would soon issue notifications for 5,000 police vacancies. Stressing the importance of skill development, he said blue-collar jobs would remain crucial despite the rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence.
Criticising the previous BRS regime, he said the Telangana Public Service Commission had been revamped to ensure transparency and professionalism in recruitment.
The Chief Minister claimed Telangana had waived farm loans worth ₹20,616 crore, provided ₹12,000 per acre under the Rythu Bharosa scheme and ensured remunerative prices for farmers. He also highlighted welfare measures for women, including interest-free loans to self-help groups, and reforms in public education.
Reiterating his commitment to lake protection, anti-drug initiatives and social justice, Revanth Reddy said governance must remain people-centric and rooted in public engagement. He credited the people of Telangana for his political rise from a ZPTC member to Chief Minister.
