Bihar got a fresh face in its cabinet as Shreyasi Singh, the acclaimed shooter and two-time Jamui MLA, was sworn in as a minister on Thursday. The oath-taking ceremony was part of Nitish Kumar’s historic 10th term as Chief Minister at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan.
“I express gratitude towards the people of Jamui and my family members. The Cabinet, which took oath today, comprises both youth and experienced leaders,” said Shreyasi Singh after the ceremony.
Who Is Shreyasi Singh?
Shreyasi Singh is a prominent BJP leader and a decorated sportsperson. She represents Jamui in the Bihar Legislative Assembly for the second consecutive term. BJP fielded her as the NDA candidate for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, where she defeated RJD’s Mohammad Shamshad Alam.
In her first term, she had won against RJD’s Vijay Prakash by 13,026 votes, securing 79,603 votes compared to Prakash’s 66,577. Jamui falls under the Jamui Lok Sabha constituency, previously represented by Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan.
Shreyasi Singh Political Background and Family
Shreyasi hails from a notable political family. Her father, former Union Minister Digvijay Singh, served in the Chandra Shekhar government and was a member of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Her mother, Putul Kumari, is also a former parliamentarian.
She holds a postgraduate degree and completed her MBA from Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies in 2018. According to her election affidavit, she declared assets worth ₹7.6 crore and liabilities of ₹13.3 lakh, with an annual income of ₹94.2 lakh.
Shreyasi Singh: An Ace Shooter
Shreyasi Singh is celebrated for her sporting achievements. She won a Gold medal in Women’s Double Trap at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. Earlier, she earned a Silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and a Bronze in the Double Trap team event at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon.
She has also been awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award for her contributions to Indian sports and was part of India’s squad for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Bihar Cabinet 2025: Key Faces
The 10th-term Nitish Kumar cabinet includes 18 ministers and two deputy chief ministers. BJP leaders Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha were sworn in as deputy CMs. Other ministers include Ashok Chaudhary (JD(U)), Dilip Jaiswal (BJP), and Santosh Kumar Suman (HAM).
