Bihar witnessed a major political moment on Thursday as Nitish Kumar returned as the Chief Minister for a record tenth time. The historic swearing-in ceremony at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan marked the beginning of a new NDA government backed by a strong majority. The occasion turned into a massive political event, drawing the presence of top national leaders and thousands of supporters.
Governor Arif Mohammad Khan administered the oath of office and secrecy to Nitish Kumar. His return to power comes a day after he resigned and immediately staked a claim to form the new NDA government, paving the way for the 18th Bihar assembly.
This is the tenth time Nitish Kumar has become the Chief Minister—an achievement unmatched in Bihar’s political history.
A total of 18 cabinet ministers were sworn in during the ceremony. The two deputy chief ministers — Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha — also took the oath. Their inclusion confirms that the BJP has retained both deputy CM positions.

The swearing-in ceremony turned into a major show of NDA strength. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the event along with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

The NDA returned to power with a sweeping mandate in the recently concluded Bihar elections. The alliance won 202 out of 243 seats, securing a comfortable majority.

A three-day session of the newly formed Bihar assembly will begin on November 26. During this session, newly elected MLAs will take the oath, and the House will elect the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
The session will mark the formal start of legislative work under the new NDA government.
