Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha has called on the government to provide free access to advanced generative AI tools for every Indian. He argued that artificial intelligence should not remain a privilege for a few but become a tool for all sections of society.

Chadha appealed while speaking in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. He said AI is more than just technology — it is an opportunity for citizens to dream and achieve those dreams.

“AI can help farmers, students, traders, and the elderly.”

Chadha highlighted how AI can play a role in everyday life. “Today’s world is changing very quickly. In this changing world, AI is not just a technology, but also an opportunity to have dreams and achieve them,” he said.

He explained that AI can support farmers with smart farming, guide students as a 24/7 tutor, help traders as a business planner, assist the youth as a career guide, and even act as a doctor for the elderly. “AI has the answers for all your problems,” he added.

Other countries already offer free AI tools.

Chadha pointed out that countries like the UAE, Singapore, and China are already giving their citizens free access to advanced AI platforms. However, in India, most premium tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, and Claude are behind paid subscriptions, which many cannot afford.

He said this limits the benefits of AI to only a small section of people.

Chadha said India cannot afford to fall behind as AI is expected to power a $15 trillion global economy by 2030.

“If India provides free subscription of advanced generative AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, and Claude to all Indians of all ages and social strata in all languages, it can improve the country’s productivity and save valuable time,” he told Parliament.

He added that tasks like coding, data analysis, and filling forms can all become simpler and faster with AI.

Call for digital democracy

Chadha described his proposal as a step toward digital democracy. He said that free AI access will ensure that no Indian is left behind in the new technological era.

“The government should look into the matter so that no Indian is left behind,” he said.

Currently, many AI tools in India require paid subscriptions to unlock their full potential.

Meanwhile, OpenAI recently introduced the ChatGPT Go plan in India. It is priced at ₹399 per month, making it the most affordable premium plan so far. The earlier ChatGPT Plus plan costs ₹1,999 per month.

This move has made advanced AI tools slightly more accessible, but Chadha insists that free access for all citizens will truly unlock India’s potential.
