Former Congress MP and actor Ramya, also known as Divya Spandana, welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to cancel the bail granted to actor Darshan in the high-profile Renukaswamy murder case.

Speaking to the media on Monday, she emphasized that the ruling reinforces the principle of equality before the law.

Public Sentiment and Legal Accountability

Ramya highlighted that many members of the public had expressed discomfort with the Karnataka High Court’s earlier order granting bail to Darshan.

“I appreciate the Supreme Court’s judgment on denying the bail, which the High Court had granted, because people widely felt that the previous decision was not in the right spirit,” she said. According to her, the Supreme Court’s intervention sends a strong message that the legal system treats everyone equally, regardless of social or professional status.

Earlier this week, Ramya had shared her thoughts on Instagram, acknowledging the apex court’s decision.

She wrote, “The SC judgment today on setting aside bail to Darshan and others in the Renukaswamy murder case sends out a strong message all are equal before the law.” Her post resonated with many, reinforcing public confidence in the judicial process.

The Supreme Court bench, comprising Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan, nullified the Karnataka High Court’s order that had allowed bail to Darshan and actress Pavithra Gowda. Following the apex court’s directive, both actors were taken into custody.

Case Background

The case revolves around the alleged kidnapping and torture of Renukaswamy, a 33-year-old fan of Darshan.

According to reports, Renukaswamy was held captive in a Bengaluru shed for three days in June last year before being found dead. He had reportedly sent inappropriate messages to Pavithra Gowda, which allegedly triggered the incident.

Ramya’s remarks underscore the broader societal expectation that justice must prevail regardless of an individual’s influence or popularity. By applauding the Supreme Court, she highlighted the judiciary’s role in maintaining accountability and reinforcing public trust in legal processes.
