Over 40 personnel will always be there to guard the CM.
Delhi Police has upgraded security for Chief Minister Rekha Gupta after the attack on her during a public event on August 20. Forty personnel will now be permanently deployed to guard the CM. Visitors will undergo multiple frisking checks before entering any of her programmes.
Initially, the Union Home Ministry had assigned the CRPF for Z-category security. However, the Delhi Police has taken over and enhanced the cover to Z+ level. Over 40 personnel will always be there to guard the CM. A robust security arrangement has been put in place for the Delhi CM. Stringent checks will be carried out in all her programmes,” said a senior police officer.
The security system now uses a two-circle model. The inner circle includes two armed bodyguards ahead of the CM to shield her in case of any immediate threat. Other guards keep a 360-degree watch to spot dangers before they become serious. The outer circle is in charge of crowd control, frisking, and public access.

The upgraded security applies to all of Gupta’s public interactions, including her ‘Jan Sunwai’ programmes at the Civil Lines camp office, where she was attacked. “Every visitor will be thoroughly frisked and verified before entering the premises. We have designed a layered system of security so that no lapse is possible,” the officer added.
The attack on CM Gupta has been called a “well-planned conspiracy to kill her” by her office. Investigations have made progress, with two arrests so far. The prime accused, Rajeshbhai Khimji, 41, an auto-rickshaw driver from Rajkot, Gujarat, allegedly carried out the attack. His associate Tehseen, who reportedly financed and coordinated the attack, has also been arrested.

Police are questioning over 10 people linked to Khimji. “The motive is being investigated thoroughly, and more names may emerge as the investigation progresses,” said a police officer involved in the probe.
Enhanced security measures will apply to all future public programmes attended by the CM. “The safety of the chief minister cannot be compromised. We have drawn up strict guidelines for all her future programmes. From access control to the positioning of security personnel, everything will be closely monitored,” the officer added.
The Delhi Police has emphasised that the Z+ security cover is aimed at ensuring the CM can attend public events safely without risk to her life.
