The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has taken serious note of the growing coronavirus cases in Gujarat, and is monitoring the pace of vaccination in the state.

The PMO has been upset with the slow pace of vaccination in Gujarat and that is why, the entire task has now been handed over to a team of officials, led by the Prime Minister’s special envoy K. Kailasanathan. Special instructions have been issued by the Prime Minister to re-attain control of the Covid situation in the state at any cost and expedite vaccination.

The Centre had instructed to expedite vaccination in Gujarat. At a time when the transmission of coronavirus is on the rise in the state, discussion on the replacement of Jayanti Ravi, the front secretary of the health department, is in full swing. Kailasanathan is said to have been handed over the responsibility. Not only that, he has also taken charge of vaccination operations in the state. The state government has appointed special officers in all the municipal corporations and districts, as Kailasanathan is known for his speedy implementation of decisions. Efforts have been planned to increase vaccination, with operations being carried out with specific targets.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also called for speedy vaccination in a recent meeting with state chief ministers. Amid talk of replacing Jayanti Ravi, the move to hand over charge of the health department in Gujarat to another senior and experienced officer, has started.
