Bidar: A 28-year-old government doctor at the Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences (BRIMS) was assaulted by patients’ associates in the early hours of May 22nd over an argument over x-rays during treatment in the emergency.
Victim Dr. Tukaram has lodged a complaint with the New Town Police Station who have booked seven accused persons and others for assault using dangerous weapons and criminal intimidation.
Resident doctors at BRIMS staged a protest against the patient’s associates and demanded the police to immediately arrest everyone involved in the doctor’s attack.
In his complaint to the police, Dr. Tukaram, an Orthopaedic Resident Doctor at BRIMS Bidar, was on emergency casualty duty during the early hours of May 22nd. At approximately 1:00 am while he was attending to and treating an injured patient, a group of patient
attenders and relatives unlawfully entered the casualty area, abused him in filthy language, threatened him with dire consequences, obstructed his official duty, and physically assaulted him.
They even pushed him to the ground and struck him with punches and kicks to the face, head, and abdomen.
Resident doctors of BRIMS along with members of the Karnataka Association of Resident Doctors (KARD) staged a protest a d demanded the arrest of the doctor’s assailants. They also demanded the authorities to ensure immediate protection and adequate security for doctors and healthcare staff at BRIMS.
