A new chapter began in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday with the formal announcement of Nitin Nabin as the party’s new national president at the BJP headquarters in Delhi. The declaration was made by the party’s election officer, Dr K. Laxman, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and outgoing president J.P. Nadda.
Congratulating Nabin on assuming charge, Prime Minister Modi said that from today, Nitin Nabin is his boss and he is a party worker. He underlined that while presidents change in the BJP, its ideals remain constant.
Extending his best wishes, PM Modi said, “I extend my heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Nitin Nabin on being elected national president of the world’s largest party. Over the past several months, a comprehensive and democratic organisational process—from the smallest unit to the election of the national president—was carried out in keeping with the spirit of the BJP constitution, and it has now concluded properly.”
In his address, the Prime Minister said the BJP’s focus was not only on organisational expansion but equally on strengthening its cadre. “People may say that Narendra Modi has become Prime Minister for the third time, became Chief Minister at the age of 50, and has led governments for 25 years. All this is true. But the greatest thing in my life is that I am a BJP worker. This is my greatest pride. When it comes to party matters, Nitin Nabin is my boss and I am a party worker,” he said.
PM Modi added that while the leadership had presented an account of its work, the performance review would now be written by the national president. He also expressed confidence of the BJP’s victory in the upcoming state assembly elections and noted that 100,000 young people had joined the party.
Nitin Nabin thanked PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, senior leaders and party workers. Addressing the youth, he said there were no shortcuts in politics, describing it not as a 100-metre sprint but a long marathon. He also expressed confidence that the BJP would win in all states, including West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.
Speaking to the iTV Network (India News and NewsX), Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, MP Anurag Thakur and several Union Ministers said the BJP was a party where elections were held constitutionally, and a 45-year-old leader with experience in both organisation and government had been entrusted with the presidency. They said Generation Z would connect even more strongly with the party under his leadership.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha said Nitin Nabin being a son of Bihar was a matter of pride. Describing him as a grassroots leader who believed in carrying everyone along, Sinha said the party would move forward under his leadership and also secure victory in West Bengal.
Nitin Nabin is the 12th leader to become the national president of the BJP. Before him, Lal Krishna Advani served three times, Rajnath Singh twice, while Nitin Gadkari and Amit Shah served once each. J.P. Nadda led the party as president for six years.
