Alakh Pandey is an Indian YouTuber, entrepreneur, and educator. He is widely recognized as the CEO and founder of Physics Wallah (commonly referred to as PW), an online education platform that assists students in preparing for school exams, JEE, NEET, and other competitive exams.
Alakh Pandey was born on 2 October 1991 in Allahabad (now Prayagraj), Uttar Pradesh. His father, Satish Pandey, was a private contractor. His mother, Rajat Pandey, was a teacher. Alakh has a sister, Aditi Pandey, who works in the IT/software industry. Since Alakh's family was not very affluent when he was a child, he began to teach younger students while he was still at school to assist. He used to earn little by little, but this introduced him to hard work and responsibility.

Alakh attended Bishop Johnson School in Prayagraj. Then he went on to study at Harcourt Butler Technical Institute (HBTU), Kanpur, for a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering. But he discontinued college midway—he believed teaching was his true passion. In 2014-2016, Alakh began posting videos of teaching physics on YouTube by the name of Physics Wallah. The platform gained popularity since he taught complex subjects simply, and numerous students started following him for free tutorials. With time, he developed more material, had more educators, and diversified to paid courses.
Physics Wallah also started an app and offline and online coaching centers. The idea was to provide good education at affordable rates, particularly to students who can't afford high fees.
Alakh Pandey got married to Shivani Dubey on 22 February 2023. Shivani is a freelance journalist who has contributed to culture, entertainment, politics, and more. They got engaged before marriage.
As of 2024-2025, Alakh Pandey's net worth is around ₹4,500 crore (approximately US$240 million) through Physics Wallah and associated businesses. His business Physics Wallah turned into a "unicorn" start-up (i.e., appreciated at $1 billion or more) in 2022. It has numerous branches: YouTube channels, paid online courses, offline coaching centers, and app subscriptions all generate revenue.
