What are Garbas?

Garba is a spirited folk dance grounded in folk tales from the Gujarat region of India. It is celebrated mainly during the Navratri festival devoted to Goddess Durga and Her various incarnations. The dance is characterized by rhythmic clapping, nimble footwork and circular motion, mainly around the pot or idol, symbolizing the Divine Feminine.

Garba is not just a dance; it serves spiritual expression of love, community and the victory of good over evil marking Goddess Durga's victory over the demon Mahishasura.

When Does Navratri Start & How Long Is a Garba Event?

Navratri is a Hindu festival which lasts for nine nights generally beginning around late September or early October depending on the lunar calendar. Garba events take place all over Gujarat and beyond during this time, with each night being dedicated to a different form of the goddess.

The Garba events last the whole nine days of Navratri with very big celebrations often lasting from evening until well after midnight. The 10th day is called Vijayadashami or Dussehra which marks the final victory of good over evil.

Where Are the Biggest Events of Garba Officiating in Gujarat?

Garba festivities are celebrated like in Gujarat almost every city stage great events nationally and internationally. The grandest attracting large participation from devotees and tourists are in Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Rajkot. These three cities are special and unique by combining traditional values, music and dance. An electrifying event where every participant gets into the spirit of togetherness from different walks of life. 

Udgam na Garba in Ahmedabad

One of the most loved Garba festivals of Ahmedabad, Udgam na Garba, is back this year from September 22 to October 1, 2025. It held at the Savanna Party Lawns, the festival is known for blending the traditional Garba with contemporary production techniques.

It features live bands, professional sound systems and a memorable spiritual ambience. This year an addition to the festival will be a drone show narrating the story of Goddess Durga and Mahishasura with lavish décor inspired by 51 Shaktipeeths of India. A perfect blend of devotion, fun and camaraderie.

Sheri Garba in Ahmedabad

In Ahmedabad, Sheri Garba attracts large crowds every year it is going to be spread over three different stages Artist Stage, Chowk Mandli and Techno Garba stage attracting people from different tastes of music and performing arts.
