‘Modaks are Healthy’: Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar Advises Not to Replace Jaggery with Stevia

Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar highlighted that traditional modaks made with jaggery, coconut, and ghee are naturally healthy. She advised against replacing jaggery with artificial sweeteners like stevia, emphasizing the importance of preserving cultural food wisdom during festivals.

Ganesh Chaturthi is incomplete without Lord Ganesha’s favorite ‘modaks’. Steamed or fried, the sweetness of modaks fills the house with joy, adding to the arrival of Bappa. However, people are often concerned about calories can relax. Celebrity nutritionist Rutuja Diwakar has assured that modaks are already healthy, and there is no point in skipping them.

Why Modaks Don’t Need a Makeover?

Rutuja often highlights the importance of traditional Indian food. She took it to her social media and stated that ‘Modaks are already healthy’ and don’t need reinvention. She asserted that the ingredients like jaggery, rice flour, and coconut used by our grandmothers have proven to be nutrition-rich.

What is the Problem with Healthy Alternatives?

She explains how replacing the actual ingredients, like jaggery with stevia, and rice flour with ragi, are often based upon fad diets and do not provide any additional health benefits. She further added that it can mess up the entire flavor of the traditional dish.

She concluded as she advised to enjoy the dish as it is supposed to be, rather than experimenting with it, only to ruin it. She said, “They only get pricier and yucky.”

So, this year celebrate the arrival of Ganpati Bappa with their sweet, yummy, and traditional modaks guilt-free.
