Karwa Chauth celebrates love, devotion and fidelity toward a spouse established primarily in North India, enormous enthusiasm for the day is maintained by married Hindu women for whom the fast is an expression of emotional bonding and spiritual commitment. Its outreach has widened in recent times with Indian communities all over the world keeping the traditions alive in modern adaptations filled with deep emotion.
It occurs in the Kartik month on the fourth day after the full moon during which the women fast from sunrise to moonrise, praying for the well-being and long life of their husbands although mostly sustained by age-old beliefs, the spirit of the day embodies mutual respect and love. Even young, newly married couples and men are starting to embrace the rituals bridging the sentiments of the past with those of the present.
Karwa Chauth will fall on Friday, October 10, 2025, this year and the beginning of Chaturthi Tithi will be on the previous night, October 9 at 10:54 PM while it is expected to finish on October 10, at 7:38 PM. Women start their fast at dawn and live their vrat only after seeing and praying to the moon.

The moon is expected to rise around 8:23 PM in Jaipur and this is an important time as it marks the completion of the fast. The women see the moon through a sieve, perform the aarti and then break their fast after offering water (Arghya) to the moon and receiving blessings from their husbands.
As per astrological calculations the best time for the puja of Karwa Chauth this year lies between 5:57 PM and 7:11 PM on October 10. This period, mainly known as Pradosh Kaal is blessed to perform the evening rituals.

Karwa Chauth Katha rituals are the narration and it is recited during the puja time from 5:57 PM to 7:07 PM. The women come together usually at temples or at home to listen to the story of Queen Veeravati and to understand the deeper spiritual meaning of the fast.
Karwa Chauth steeped in mythology and tradition started as a celebration of unbreakable marital fidelity. The popular legend relates to Queen Veeravati, who through erroneous belief, broke her fast and lost her husband whom she brought back to life through penance for a year. The day therefore symbolically commemorates among others the covenant of marriage, womanhood, endurance and faith.
Moonrise is expected at around 8:13 PM of October 10, 2025, for those observing the fast in Noida. The devotees keep an eye on local manuals called panchangor lunar calendars for the exact timings according to their local area.
