The moonrise moment holds deep emotional and spiritual importance for those observing Karwa Chauth. On this auspicious day, married women fast from sunrise to moonrise for the long life, happiness, and success of their husbands. The fast concludes only when they see the moon and offer heartfelt prayers to it.
Karwa Chauth is one of India’s most cherished traditions, symbolizing love, commitment, and devotion between married couples. Women observe a full-day fast seeking blessings for their husband’s longevity. In modern times, many husbands also choose to fast as a gesture of mutual affection. Unmarried women often participate too, praying to be blessed with a loving life partner.
The festival of Karwa Chauth in 2025 falls on Friday, October 10. It is celebrated on the Chaturthi (fourth day) of the Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Kartik.
For those in Ambala, the moon is expected to rise at 7:36 PM. Women observing the fast will eagerly look to the sky at this time to complete their rituals and offer their devotion.
The ideal time for the evening Karwa Chauth Puja is from 5:57 PM to 7:36 PM. During this sacred period, women gather to worship, decorate their thalis with diyas and sweets, and pray for their husband’s prosperity and well-being.
As part of the tradition, women sit together and listen to the Karwa Chauth Katha, which narrates the origin and importance of this festival. They also seek blessings from Goddess Parvati, Lord Shiva, and Lord Ganesha during the puja and the time to break the fast is 07:36 PM.
The fast is broken only after sighting the moon. Women view the moon through a sieve (chhalni), offer water (arghya) to it, and then look at their husbands through the sieve. The husband then gives his wife the first sip of water and a small bite of food, ending the fast with affection and blessings.
