Janmashtami 2025 falls on August 16. Celebrate by making makhana paag, a sweet with lotus seeds, ghee, coconut, and sugar, often part of Lord Krishna’s chhappan bhog.
The birth of Lord Krishna is celebrated every year as Krishna Janmashtami. This year, the festival will be celebrated on August 16, 2025 (Saturday). Shri Krishna was born on the eighth day (Ashtami) of Krishna Paksh in the Bhadrapada month.
Devotees offer special prasad items to Lord Krishna on this day, such as dhania panjiri, makhan misri, and panchamrit. Among all the prasad items, makhana paag is one of the simplest and most loved.
Makhana Paag is a sweet dish made during the festival of Krishna Janmashtami using only four basic ingredients: Makhana, ghee, grated coconut, and powdered sugar (bhoora). It is also a part of 'chappan bhog' offered to the deity.
