Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated across the country on 27 August 2025. After ten days of devotion, the festival concludes today, 6 September, with the immersion (Visarjan) of Lord Ganesha’s idols. Devotees believe that during Visarjan, Lord Ganesha returns to his heavenly abode after blessing the world with happiness, peace, prosperity, and well-being. It is also said that immersion should be done at the right time (shubh muhurat) and with proper rituals, otherwise the devotees may not receive the full benefit of their prayers.

Ganesh Visarjan 2025 Shubh Muhurat (Auspicious Timings)

According to Drik Panchang, the first auspicious time for immersion today was between 7:36 AM and 9:10 AM. After this, four more muhurats are available for Visarjan:

  • Afternoon Muhurat (Char, Labh, Amrit): 12:19 PM to 5:02 PM

  • Evening Muhurat (Labh/Sayahn): 6:37 PM to 8:02 PM

  • Night Muhurat (Shubh, Amrit, Char): 9:28 PM to 1:45 AM (7 September)

  • Early Morning Muhurat (Labh/Ushakaal): 4:36 AM to 6:02 AM (7 September)

These timings are considered highly auspicious for performing the farewell rituals of Lord Ganesha.

Step-by-Step Ganesh Visarjan Rituals

Devotees follow a set of sacred steps before immersing the idol. The process includes:

  1. Perform the Final Puja: Offer fruits, flowers, sweets, clothes, rice grains (akshat), and incense to Lord Ganesha.

  2. Chant Ganesh Mantras: Recite mantras with devotion.

  3. Light a Lamp: Burn a ghee lamp and perform aarti.

  4. Choose a Clean Water Source: Take the idol for immersion in a clean pond, lake, river, or sea.

  5. Celebrate with Devotion: Carry the idol with songs, chants, and joy.

  6. Offer Rice Grains: Sprinkle akshat at the place where the idol was installed.

  7. Immerse the Idol: Dip the idol 3–5 times before letting it go gently into the water.

  8. Offer Water: Pour water three times behind the idol as a mark of respect.

  9. Seek Forgiveness: Stand by the water for a moment, ask for forgiveness for any mistakes, and seek blessings for the future.

  10. Bid Farewell: Chant “Ganpati Bappa Morya, Agle Varsh Jaldi Aana” (Come back soon next year) at least 5–11 times.

Spiritual Belief

Visarjan is not seen as a goodbye but as a promise of return. Devotees believe that Lord Ganesha departs only to come back the following year, bringing blessings once again.
