Diwali starts with Dhanteras, also called Dhantrayodashi, on Saturday, October 18, 2025. People worship Lord Dhanvantari and Goddess Lakshmi for health, wealth, and prosperity.
It is considered lucky to buy gold, silver, or new utensils on this day. The puja muhurat is from 7:16 AM to 8:20 AM.
The second day is Choti Diwali or Narak Chaturdashi, on Monday, October 20, 2025. This day celebrates Lord Krishna’s victory over Narakasura. People light diyas and decorate their homes to prepare for the main Diwali night.
The sacred oil bath, called Abhyang Snan, should be done from 5:13 AM to 6:25 AM.
The third day is Lakshmi Puja, the most important day of Diwali. This year it is also on Monday, October 20, 2025. Families light diyas and candles, perform puja rituals, exchange sweets, and pray for wealth and happiness. Business owners close their yearly accounts and start the new year with blessings.
The Lakshmi Puja muhurat is from 7:08 PM to 8:18 PM.
The fourth day is Govardhan Puja or Annakut, on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. People honor Lord Krishna, who lifted the Govardhan hill to protect villagers from heavy rains. The puja teaches gratitude and devotion.
The puja muhurat is from 6:26 AM to 8:42 AM.
The fifth day is Bhai Dooj, on Thursday, October 23, 2025. Sisters pray for their brothers’ long life and happiness, while brothers give gifts and promise protection.
The muhurat for Bhai Dooj is from 1:13 PM to 3:28 PM.
