During a satsang a devotee respectfully posed the delicate topic that if a woman is on her monthly cycle during a tirth yatra, should she still go for darshan? To Premanand Maharaj. Many women quietly struggle with this issue, frequently caught between traditionalism and devotion. Maharaj’s answer gave both comfort and clarity, reminding everyone that the divine never distances itself from a sincere heart.

The Sacred View

Maharaj explained that menstruation is not impurity, but a divine process bestowed by nature. He said: Darshan is God’s grace. No woman should feel unworthy of it because of her cycle. If possible, purify yourself by bathing with Ganga water, apply chandan, and then have darshan, even from a little distance.

He reminded devotees that menstruation is mentioned in the scriptures not as a curse, but as a sacred responsibility taken on by mothers of humanity. The pain and cycles women go through are not punishments but part of dharmic balance worthy of respect, not shame.

Darshan With Reverence

Maharaj guided that if a woman finds herself in such a situation, she need not withdraw completely from her pilgrimage. Instead, she may:

  • Take a ritual bath or cleanse with Ganga jal.
  • Apply sandalwood or fragrant substances as a mark of purity.
  • Sit or stand respectfully, even if not touching the inner sanctum.
  • Focus on bhakti (devotion) from the heart, which matters most.

He stressed that God never denies His devotee. If approached with shraddha (faith) and bhav (devotional intent), every darshan is accepted, whether near or far.

Divine Assurance

Maharaj concluded with words that touched many hearts: When the Lord has given this body, He has also given its processes. If the body is His gift, how can its cycles make you distant from Him? Go ahead, seek His darshan with devotion. That is your right. For countless women, this message offered relief and reassurance. It was a reminder that faith is not bound by biology regardless of their circumstances and everyone is eternally deserving of divine favor.
