We often hear that time runs in cycles, and Hindu scriptures describe these cycles as Yugas and first comes Satya Yuga, the golden age, then Treta Yuga, then Dvapara Yuga, and finally Kali Yuga, the darkest of all. According to Manusmriti, Kali Yuga should last for 432,000 years. But saints like Achyutananda Das wrote that it would actually end much earlier—after just 5,000 years—because of the heavy burden of sins. Today, many signs suggest that Kali Yuga has already ended. We are now in the Sangam Yuga, the twilight that bridges one age to another. The Bhavishya Malika, written centuries ago by Odisha’s Panchasakha saints, explains this moment of transition. It warns of disasters, but it also shows the way forward, towards a brighter age.
The Cycles of Yugas and the Twilight of Kali
Manusmriti says that every Yuga has a dawn and dusk. For Kali Yuga, the real experience is only 4,800 years, with twilight phases stretching it further. Achyutananda Das repeated this point, stressing that sins would cut it short. If we calculate today, Kali Yuga has already run its full course. That means humanity now lives in the Sandhya, the in-between time when old systems collapse and new ones begin.

Prophecies of Achyutananda Das
Achyutananda Das Ji Maharaj, one of the most respected Panchasakha saints, left behind clear warnings in his Malika Granth and he said falsehood would dominate religion, even wise men would lose their way, and society would wander in confusion. He also described strange cosmic signs: the sun rising in the west, the moon appearing dim, and fire losing its heat. These signs pointed directly to the end of Kali Yuga and the beginning of a shift.
The Five Saints and Their Bhavishya Malika
The Panchasakhas—Achyutananda Das, Jagannath Das, Balaram Das, Shishu Anant Das, and Yashwant Das—were disciples of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. They believed in making knowledge simple for everyone. Since paper was rare, they wrote their works, including the Bhavishya Malika, on palm leaves. This wasn’t just one book but a huge series of about 185,000 texts. Just like Valmiki wrote the Ramayana before Rama and Vyasa wrote the Bhagwat before Krishna, these saints wrote the Bhavishya Malika before the time of Kalki Avatar.
Signs from Jagannath Temple
The Bhavishya Malika links the destiny of Kali Yuga to Lord Jagannath’s temple in Puri. It says that flames on the temple canopy, the burning of its flag, the fall of stones, and the flight of strange birds would all announce the end, and these things have actually happened. The canopy caught fire in 2005 while the temple flag burned in 2020. Stones fell in 2011, 2015, and 2022. Cyclone Fani in 2019 bent the Neelachakra. And since 2005, birds that usually never fly over the temple have been spotted several times.

The Dawn of a New Era
The Bhavishya Malika does not only warn of destruction. It also points to hope. It says there will be wars, storms, and pandemics, but it also tells humanity to hold on to dharma. It guides people to prepare for the coming of Kalki Avatar. As we step out of Kali Yuga’s shadow, these prophecies suggest the birth of a new era—Satyayuga, the age of truth and light.
