Our nervous system is responsible for maintaining control over memory, mood, energy, and overall health. Yet, some of our common habits can slowly diminish its strength and trigger fatigue, stress, anxiety, and low energy. Identification of these habits is the first step towards good mental and physical health.

Lack of Proper Sleep

The American Psychological Association describes how poor sleep can leave the brain fatigued and impair memory. Chronic sleep deprivation could also increase the chances of Alzheimer’s and migraines. Experts recommend 7-9 hours of sleep per day, with a routine and less screen time prior to bedtime.

Excessive Screen Use

Hours spent on phones or computers strain the eyes and brain, tending to result in anxiety. Following the 20-20-20 rule-gazing 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes-may help limit strain.

Stress and Poor Diet

Chronic stress upsets the hormonal balance, disrupting both sleep and emotional well-being. Yoga, meditation, or writing can assist. Likewise, a diet that is high in vitamin B, magnesium, omega-3, fruit, vegetables, nuts, and fish helps to maintain strong nerves, and junk food has the opposite effect.

Sedentary Lifestyle and Addictions

Sitting for extended hours can decrease the blood flow and slow down brain activity. A brisk walk for 30 minutes, yoga, or cycling can help with this. Consuming herbal tea has proven to be beneficial.

Impact of Smoking and Pollution

Nicotine damages brain nerves and increases the risk of stroke. Pollution puts additional pressure on them, so stay away from smoking and polluted areas.
