Security forces in Kashmir have stepped up sanitisation and area domination exercises across the Valley ahead of Republic Day to ensure smooth and peaceful celebrations, officials said on Sunday.

Authorities said random frisking of vehicles is being carried out at major intersections in Srinagar and other districts to check for any suspicious activity. Search operations and area domination exercises have also been launched around venues scheduled to host Republic Day events.

The main Republic Day function in Kashmir will be held at Bakshi Stadium, where stringent security arrangements have been put in place. Police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed across the city and district headquarters, with checkpoints established at key entry points to monitor movement. Officials said a multi-layered security apparatus has been deployed around all Republic Day venues in the Valley. Sniffer dogs and metal detectors are being used to prevent any potential threat from explosives or improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

“Security agencies have been directed to remain alert at all times to ensure that law and order is maintained and the peace of the Valley is not disturbed,” an official said.

Mock security drills have also been conducted at various locations to prepare for any eventuality, underscoring that authorities are leaving nothing to chance in the run-up to the national celebrations.

The enhanced security measures are part of a broader effort to ensure safe and uninterrupted Republic Day celebrations across the region.
