Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC President DK Shivakumar, on Thursday said that there was a possibility of JDS merging with the BJP.
“If you look at Kumaraswamy’s approach, there is a possibility of JDS merging with BJP. If it happens, it is good for us as we can directly fight with the BJP,” the DCM said. He was speaking at an event to induct Chamarajpet JDS leader Govindaraj.
“I welcome former Corporator Govindaraj and his wife Gowramma, Chandrashekar and David and other leaders to the party. Govindaraju is a family friend and I know him for a long time. He is joining the Congress party as there was no arrangement that was possible between JDS and BJP,” he added.
“The earlier the JDS merges with BJP, the better it is for us. Currently, both of them are sitting on the fence. There is a lot of confusion in many constituencies and candidates are uncertain about their future. Many are eager to contest on the Congress ticket. We have given out 247 applications for candidature for GBA elections from West Corporation, 199 from North Corporation, 129 from South Corporation, 106 from Central Corporation and 78 from East Corporation. A total of 779 applications have been given to prospective candidates. Submit the applications for candidature as quickly as possible and don’t wait for the last date. It will be easier for us evaluate the applications better,” the DCM said.
“BJP leaders themselves are welcoming our work and they are saying that there is no future considering the good work done by the Congress government. JDS said recently that they would do a friendly fight, let them fight seriously. We are ready for the fight,” he added.
“The entire country is looking at the division of BBMP into five corporations. There are many people who want to join the party and they will be inducted into the party soon. It will be difficult for us to decide if people approach us late,” he added.
“They are treating JDS party as a private property and the party doesn’t have an ideology or principle,” he noted.
