New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday alleged that “India’s urban collapse is not about lack of money, technology, or solutions” but a “lack of accountability” in the wake of the death of a software engineer in Uttar Pradesh Gautam Buddha Nagar.

In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi said, “Bridges kill, Fires kill, Water kills, Pollution kills, Corruption kills, Indifference kills. India’s urban collapse isn’t about lack of money, technology, or solutions. It’s about lack of accountability. TINA : There Is No Accountability.”

He also attached a video of an eyewitness sharing the details of the tragic incident where a Noida-based techie whose car plunged into a water-filled pit in Greater Noida’s Sector 150 area died.

His remarks came in the wake of death of Yuvraj Mehta, a 27 year, who worked in Gurugram, was returning to his home in Noida Sector 150 when his car fell into a deep, water-filled pit near an under-construction site on the night of January 16.

He died after frantically pleading for help for around two hours.

The victim’s family had alleged that the site was accident-prone and that repeated requests to install barricades and reflectors were ignored, leading to the tragedy.

Following the incident, an FIR was filed against two real estate developers.

The Uttar Pradesh government on January 19, 2026 removed the Noida Authority Chief Executive Officer and ordered an SIT probe into the incident.

Even Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the SIT to investigate the circumstances leading to the fatal accident and submit a report within five days.
