India’s Covid-19 count seeing a dip despite festival season

India has 94.62 lakh corona infections, but the number of daily cases has stayed below the 50,000-mark since November 7, despite a busy festival season last month.

India recorded 31,118 new coronavirus cases, the lowest daily tally since November 17, while deaths rose by 482, bringing the total to 137,621. India now has 94.62 lakh cases of Covid-19, but the number of daily cases has stayed below the 50,000-mark since November 7, despite a busy festival season last month.

Amongst the worst-affected states, Maharashtra reported 4,930 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking the count of infections to 18,28,826. With 95 more patients succumbing to the viral infection, the overall death toll mounted to 47,246. A total of 6,290 patients were discharged during the day, taking the tally of recoveries to 16,91,412. The state is now left with 89,098 active cases. Meanwhile, in India’s financial capital of Mumbai, 724 new cases took its caseload to 2,84,191, while the count of fatalities rose by 9 to reach 10,893. The state has so far tested 1,09,15,683 samples.

Delhi recorded 4,006 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking the infection tally to 5,74,380, while 86 new fatalities pushed the toll to 9,260. These fresh cases came out of the 58,456 Covid-19 tests conducted the previous day, including 30,297 RT-PCR tests. The positivity rate stood at 6.85 per cent and the active Covid-19 case count stood at 31,769 in the national capital.

In the neighbouring state of Haryana, 28 patients succumbed to Covid-19, bringing the death toll due to the disease to 2,456, while 1,871 fresh cases pushed the state›s infection tally to 2,35,997. The state has 17,744 active cases of the novel coronavirus and a recovery rate of 91.44 per cent.

Punjab reported 630 new Covid-19 cases, 812 discharges and 14 deaths in the last 24 hours. Total cases in the state rose to 1,52,709, including 1,40,254 recoveries and 4,821 deaths. Active cases stand at 7,634.

Rajasthan recorded 19 more fatalities due to the coronavirus, taking the Covid-19 death toll in the state to 2,347. The state also reported 2,331 new cases in the last 24 hours. The total number of people infected by Covid-19 now stands at 2,70,410 in Rajasthan and out of these, 27,974 are under treatment.

Gujarat recorded 1,477 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, taking its Covid-19 case tally to 2,11,257. 15 patients died of the viral infection in the state, raising the fatality count to 4,004. With 1,547 patients getting discharged, the number of recovered cases in the state went up to 1,92,368. The state›s recovery rate stood at 91.06 per cent.

Jammu and Kashmir recorded 454 fresh cases of the infection and 8 deaths due to the same in the last 24 hours, bringing the infection count to 1,10,678 and the death count to 1,702. Of the new cases, 217 are from the Jammu division and 237 from the Kashmir division.

Karnataka reported 1,330 new cases of Covid-19 and 14 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 8,86,227 and the death toll to 11,792. The day also saw 886 patients getting discharged after recovery. Out of the 1,330 fresh cases reported, 758 cases were from urban Bengaluru alone.

Kerala registered 5,375 Covid-19 cases and 6,151 recoveries in the past 24 hours. Over 60,000 people are presently undergoing treatment for the disease in the state. However, the toll has climbed to 2,270 with 26 fatalities. Active cases stood at 61,092 in Kerala.
