India sees world’s highest single day Covid rise with 78,761 cases

India currently is the second worst-hit Covid-19 country in the world after the United States. The country has been recording the highest surge in cases recorded in a single day for the last 26 days. A record surge of 78,761 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours took India’s Covid tally to 35,42,733. This is the highest singleday surge reported by any country since the beginning of the pandemic. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have reported the highest number of cases.

Looking at the individual tallies amongst states, Maharashtra reported a big surge of 16,408 new Covid-19 cases, taking the total tally to 7,80,689 of whom 1,93,548 cases are active. At least 296 new deaths pushed the total death toll to 24,399.

 Andhra Pradesh became the second worst-affected state due to coronavirus in India as it surpassed Tamil Nadu, recording over 4.24 lakh coronavirus cases. The state reported over 10,000 Covid-19 cases for the fifth straight day, taking the total count to 4,24,767 — behind only Maharashtra.

Delhi reported 2,024 fresh coronavirus cases and 22 deaths in last twenty-four hours, taking the total number of infections in the national capital to 1,73,390 and death toll to 4,426. The tally includes 1,54,171 discharged cases and 14,793 active cases.

Tamil Nadu recorded a total of 6,495 fresh coronavirus cases and 94 deaths in a single day, taking the state’s tally to 4.22 lakh. The tally includes 52,721 actives cases and 3,62,133 discharged cases. Death toll rose to 7,231.

West Bengal recorded 3,019 new coronavirus cases and 50 deaths in last twentyfour hours. Total number of infection cases stands at 1,59,785 and the death toll reached 3,176. The tally includes 25,657 active cases and 1,30,952 discharged cases.

Haryana saw twelve more people succumbing to death due to coronavirus on Sunday as the state reported another major spike of 1,295 cases, pushing its infection count to 63,282. So far, the state has reported 682 deaths due to the infection. The state currently has 10,980 active cases as 51,620 people have been discharged after recovery.

Madhya Pradesh recorded 1,558 new Covid-19 cases, taking the tally to 62,433. The number of active cases stands at 13,592. As many as 29 patients died of the illness on the day, taking the Statewide death toll to 1,374. As far as recoveries are concerned, 1,054 patients were discharged from hospitals on the day.

 Gujarat recorded 1,272 new cases and 17 deaths in last twenty-for hours, increasing its numbers to 95,155 Covid-19 cases and 3,008 fatalities. Active cases are at 15,390 and discharges at 76,757.

 Uttar Pradesh recorded biggest ever single-day spike of 6,233 fresh covid-19 cases and 67 deaths in last 24 hours. State capital Lucknow reported 999 fresh cases and 8 deaths.
