India records more single-day cases than US, Brazil for a week

India records more single-day cases than US, Brazil for a week

With 53,601 new coronavirus cases and 871 deaths in the last 24 hours, India continued its abysmal performance to contain Covid-19 situation and recorded more single-day cases than the United States and Brazil for seven days in a row. With a recovery rate of 69.79 percent, the country now has 22,68,675 total cases with 45,257 deaths. A total of 15,83,489 Covid-19 patients have recovered from the infection.

Maharashtra, which is the country’s worst affected state, registered 11,088 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number to 5,35,601. There are a total of 1,48,553 active cases now. The state’s death toll is at 18,306 after 256 fatalities were recorded in the last 24 hours.917 new cases and 48 deaths were reported in Mumbai alone in the last 24 hours. Total number of cases in the city is now at 1,25,239 including 99,147 recoveries. There are currently 18,905 active cases and the death toll has climbed to 6,890 in Mumbai.

The national capital recorded 1,257 fresh coronavirus cases and eight deaths in the last 24 hours. Delhi has so far recorded a total of 1,47,391 cases out of which 1,32,384 people have recovered completely. About 32 people also succumbed to the deadly disease in Punjab, pushing the state’s total death toll to 636. The state also recorded 1,002 fresh cases which took the state’s infection tally to 25,889.

Meanwhile, Haryana reported 11 more deaths from coronavirus and also witnessed its highest single-day spike of 798 cases, taking the infection numbers to 43,227. So far, 500 people have succumbed to the disease in the state.

Tamil Nadu reported 5,834 fresh Covid-19 cases taking the tally to 3,08,649, while 118 fatalities pushed the death toll to 5,159 in the state. Number of active cases stood at 52,810 with 6,005 discharges from various hospitals.

Overall 2,50,680 patients have recovered. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh recorded 843 new Covid-19 cases, taking the total tally to 40,734. The number of active cases now stands at 9,105. Eighteen patients died of the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the state-wide death toll to 1,033.

Uttar Pradesh reported its highest single-day spike of 5,041 Covid-19 cases. 56 more people died due to the infection. The total number of cases in the state now stands at 1,31,763 and fatalities at 2,176. Andhra Pradesh’s Covid-19 tally went up to 2,44,549 as 9,024 fresh cases were added in the last 24 hours, while 87 more deaths pushed the overall toll to 2,203. Meanwhile, 9,113 patients were discharged from hospitals in the state after recovering from the disease.
