INDIA RECORDS 19K NEW COVID CASES, LOWEST SINCE EARLY JULY

Active coronavirus cases slump below 3 lakh, lowest in 163 days, says Health Ministry.

India added only 19,556 new coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, the lowest since early July. One crore 75,116 confirmed Covid-19 cases, including 1,46,111 deaths were recorded till Tuesday. A total of 96,36,487 patients have recovered or been discharged. The number of Covid-related deaths reported from across the country in this period was 301, taking the total to 1,46,111. India’s recovery rate continues to rise and now stands at 95.65%.

Meanwhile, in a significant milestone in the fight against Covid-19, the total number of active coronavirus in the country has slumped down to less than 3 lakh after over five-and-a-half months and the recovery rate stands over 95 per cent, said Union Health Ministry on Tuesday. There are 2,92,518 active cases in the country, which comprise 2.9% of the total caseload.

Rajesh Bhushan, Secretary, Health Ministry said, “In the country, active cases are less than 3 lakhs after 163 days. It is after almost 5.5 months, we have less than 3 lakh active Covid-19 cases in the country. It is a big achievement and credit goes to every frontline worker, administration and officials who are engaged in coronavirus containment related work. Currently, the active cases are less than 3% of overall cases. The daily new cases are less than 20,000 after 173 days. More than 16.3 crore tests have been conducted so far.”

He added, “Across the world, new coronavirus cases are rising including in US, Brazil, UK, Russia and Germany. From mid-September, India is witnessing a sustained and continuous decline in new cases. The cases per million population for the world is 9,697, India’s cases per million population stand at 7,300, Russia’s 19,719, UK’s 30,052 and cases per million population in the US stand at 52,915.” Deaths per million population in India is 106 while the world’s stand at 216.

 The health secretary said that in the last seven weeks, average daily new cases have shown a continuous decline in the country. “Only 24,135 new cases registered between 16 and 22 December against 46,301 cases registered between 4-10 November,” said Bhushan.

Providing details of the current situation in the last 24 hours, he said, “57% of the cases in the last 24 hours in Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Kerala. 61% of deaths in the last 24 hours in UP, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Kerala, West Bengal and Maharashtra. 26 states and UTs have less than 10,000 active cases now.”

Delhi reported 939 new Covid-19 cases, including 1,434 recoveries and 25 deaths in the last 24 hours. Taking the total number of cases so far to 6,18,747 with 5,99,683 recovery toll and 10,329 death toll. Active cases stand at 8,735.

Maharashtra reported 3,106 fresh coronavirus cases, 4,122 discharges, and 75 deaths. The total cases in the state are 19,02,458, with 17,94,080 total recoveries, and 48,876 deaths. Total active cases stand at 58,376.

Tamil Nadu reported 1,052 new Covid-19 cases, including 1,139 discharges, and 17 deaths in the last 24 hours. Total positive cases so far are 8,09,014, with 7,87,611 total recoveries, and 12,012 deaths. Active cases are at 9,391.

Kerala reported 27 deaths including 6,049 fresh coronavirus cases, and 5,057 recoveries in the last 24 hours. The total death toll now stands at 2,870. Karnataka added 772 new Covid-19 cases, and seven deaths, taking the total number of infections to 9,10,241, and the fatality toll to 12,016. The day also saw 1,261 patients getting discharged after recovery, leaving 14,001 active cases. Telangana reported 316 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the tally to over 2.81 lakh while two fatalities pushed the toll to 1,515.
