HEAVY SNOW AND RAINS CLOSE ALL IMPORTANT ROADS IN KASHMIR

SRINAGAR: Heavy snowfall is being witnessed in higher reaches of Kashmir Valley for the second day on Tuesday while the plains especially the Srinagar city witnessed heavy downpour, inundating low-lying localities and roads.

Due to heavy snow, already the roads linking Kashmir Valley and the Ladakh region have been closed by the authorities. Likewise, the heavy rains have resulted in disrupting traffic on Srinagar-Jammu highway, according to the traffic officials.

The MET office in Srinagar said that heavy snowfall was going on in most of the higher reaches especially in North Kashmir including the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg.

Weatherman predicted that there would be some respite from the rains and snow starting from Wednesday as there would be a decrease in precipitation.

Heavy snowfall was going on the Gurez, Shopian higher reaches including on the Mughal Road. This fresh snowfall has closed the Srinagar-Leh highway and also the alternate highway—Mughal Road—between Srinagar and Jammu.

The MET Office of Srinagar has already issued an ‘Orange Colour’ weather warning for hilly areas of J&K and Ladakh and said the weather was most likely to deteriorate on Tuesday in both the UTs.

The traffic department in Jammu and Srinagar has in its fresh advisory asked the travellers to avoid journey from both the capitals as in the Banihal-Ramban sector of Srinagar-Jammu highway heavy rains have triggered some landslides which were being removed.

Authorities have also issued avalanche warning due to the heavy snowfall in the higher reaches of Kashmir and the warning has been issued in districts of Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal and Ramban.
