The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has removed Giani Raghbir Singh from his position as the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and appointed him as the Chief Granthi of Harmandir Sahib. This decision was made during a meeting of the SGPC’s interim committee on Friday.
The committee also removed Giani Sultan Singh from his post as the Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib.
Following these changes, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gadhgaj has been assigned the responsibility of Sri Kesgarh Sahib and will also take on additional duties at Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Giani Baba Tek Singh has been appointed as the Jathedar of Sri Damdama Sahib. SGPC member Jaswant Singh Pudaen stated that the removal of both Jathedars was linked to a previous decision taken on December 2. He cited two main reasons: First, Giani Raghbir Singh was making decisions without informing the committee. Second, he was traveling abroad without prior notice. Senior SGPC Vice President Sardar Raghujeet Singh explained that the Sikh community is currently facing serious challenges, with efforts being made to weaken Sikh institutions both in India and abroad.
